Nicknames, we’ve all got them, I’m known as “The Greater Khali” among my peers but like everything else on this space rock that we call home we feel the need to compare them, professional wrestling is full of nicknames, larger than life wrestlers need equally larger than life nicknames, Like Mark Henry being named Sexual Chocolate or JBL being known as the worst thing to ever happen to the WWE Championship, wrestling has no shortage of great nicknames and here are the top 10 best nicknames in wrestling history

10. Brock Lesnar: The Next Big Thing
What makes a good nickname? Is it being a subtle yet brilliant play on words or a nod to a wrestler’s past? No doubt that can be great but sometimes the best nicknames are the ones that make the most sense, in 2002, Brock Lesnar debuted and was shown as a dominant force from day one, he was an incredible sight to behold and everyone int the world knew he was the future of WWE and the Minnesota Vikings, that’s why he was given the name “The Next Big Thing” because that’s exactly what he was, in every sense of the name

9. Beth Phoenix: The Glamazon
If you ever want to appreciate the Four Horsewoman more than you already do, take a look at WWE’s women’s, excuse me, Diva’s division anywhere from 2007-2015, to put thing’s as nicely as I can, women’s wrestling wasn’t exactly a high priority for WWE, with one major exception, Beth Pheonix a perfect blend of WWE Diva attractiveness and, well “glam” and brute strength and dominating wrestling ability that made her one very bright star in the darkest time of women’s wrestling in WWE

8. Kazuchika Okada: The Rainmaker
Do you know what’s seriously one of the coolest things anyone could possibly do? Make it rain money in a sold-out wrestling arena before hitting one of the most incredible finishers in all of wrestling and holding one of the most prestigious world championships in wrestling for longer than the average length of a divs search winner’s WWE career. Kazchika Okada does exactly that and it is why he is known as The Rainmaker, one of the greatest stars of the generation has an equally as memorable nickname

7. Dusty Rhodes: The American Dream
Take one good look at the legendary son of a plumber and you will see your average blue-collar hard-working man, he did not look like the towering, muscular other wrestlers of the era, he looked like he could be any of the fans watching Dusty at home, and yet because he worked hard and dedicated himself to what he loved he was able to rise to the top of the wrestling world, truly the embodiment of the idea of the American Dream.

6. Chris Masters: The Masterpiece
Chris Masters will always seem like a gigantic missed opportunity, here was a guy who looked like he was sculpted b the gods, he looked like some epic Greek mythical hero who would flex and summon lighting to strike down his opponents, yet WWE would never commit to pushing him properly, it feels like the only good thing WWE ever gave him was that awesome nickname, but how fitting of a name was it, I mean, if you were to think of a masterpiece in human form would look like, after thinking about me, you would think about Chris Masters.

5. Randy Orton: The Legend Killer
Randy Orton is a rare kind of wrestler, in that he has two nicknames that legitimately could be on this list, and while The Viper fits the modern Randy Orton incredibly well, there is no doubt that The Legend Killer is one of the best nicknames in wrestling history. Imagine someone asking you, what is Randy Orton’s gimmick? You would answer that his thing is he likes to take the great legends in wrestling history, and beat them, like imagine your nickname literally referring to how good you are at beating the best that the industry has ever seen? That seems like a nickname I would like to go by

4. CM Punk: The Voice of the Voiceless
When some people hear of CM Punk they immediately think of the numerous classic matches with the likes of Samoa Joe, Daniel Bryan and just about anyone else he shared a ring with, however despite that Punk might be better known as the guy who forever changed the wrestling world with his famous “Pipe Bomb” promo, it felt like CM Punk grabbed the microphone that night and unloaded years and years of pent up frustration that the wrestling fan had for WWE, wrestling fans are no stranger to complaining about wrestling, but for the most part, it feels like the fan’s cries for change in WWE would fall on deaf ears, however even Vince McMahon himself was listening to CM Punk with open ears that night, therefore CM Punk was quite literally, the voice of the voiceless

3. AJ Styles: The Phenomenal One
Here’s a fun bit of trivia about me, “phenomenal” is my favorite word in the English language, I use it more than any reasonable human should, one because I like the sound of it, and two, because AJ Styles was always one of my favorite wrestlers growing up, because AJ Styles is really good at wrestling, so good at wrestling that the only appropriate nickname they could give him was “The Phenomenal One”

2. Dean Malenko: The Man of 1,000 Holds
Do you know who I would not want to wrestle if I were a wrestler? I would not want to wrestle the guy who literally knew 1,000 different submission holds, that is an absurd number of holds to know, Dean Malenko probably knows holds that target areas of the body the average human doesn’t even know the name of. The man knows 1,000 holds, 1,000, that’s like 997 more holds than Ryback ever knew, what an incredible nickname, too bad Chris Jericho knew a few more holds tho.

1.Andre the Giant: The 8th Wonder of the World
Wrestling in the most basic concept is an attraction, you watch wrestling to see incredible wrestlers who look unbelievable like there’s no way they could be real, and in the days of the 1970s and 1980s, what could have been a bigger attraction than a 7’4” mountain of a man, Andre not only had the perfect nickname but the perfect ring name, he was a giant, a giant that people would be amazed by, and before the luster could wear off, Andre was in the next territory amazing countless fans with his sheer size alone, Andre the Giant was truly a wonder of the world, and that is why he has the great nickname in wrestling history
